I am writing a book about the Brunel and Barry families of Victorian civil engineers and architects for self-publication by the end of September 2019.
You can read about my progress with the drafting on my blog at www.sirjohnwolfebarry.com . Below is a short summary of key people and structures in the book.
- The Burj Khalifa in the UAE is the world’s tallest building. Its construction can be traced back over 150 years to the ground-breaking Rotherhithe Tunnel in London completed by Marc Brunel and his son Isambard K Brunel.
- The Houses of Parliament (with Big Ben) and Tower Bridge are global icons which symbolise London. The first was built by Charles Barry with help from his sons Charles junior and Edward, and the second by his other son John in partnership with Henry Brunel, son of IK.
- The Brunels and Barrys were Victorian engineers and architects, passionate about building amazing structures. Their legacy has continued to the modern day.
